Update from Principal Takata

Dear Eagle Families,

Happy New Year, Kitsap Lake Families!

Welcome to 2025! We hope your winter break was filled with joy, rest, and precious moments with loved ones. As we enter this new year, we are excited to continue partnering with you to support your child’s growth and success.

Important Dates to Remember

  • Monday, January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (No School)
  • Wednesday, January 29: Reading Night
  • Friday, January 31:  Non-Student Day (Staff Work Day)

What’s Happening This Month

  • MLK Jr. Day: We are excited to host Mountain View Middle School choir for a performance to honor this day.
  • Focus on Resolutions: In classrooms, students will reflect on personal and academic goals for the rest of the year, fostering a growth mindset.

Traffic and Safety Reminder
With the colder weather, roads can be slick in the mornings. Please allow extra time for drop-offs and follow all safety guidelines when navigating the parking lot. Let’s work together to keep everyone safe! Please review our Winter Weather Communications so you can be prepared in the event of a school closure. They can be reviewed here on the BSD Website.

Parent-Teacher Communication
The new year is a great time to reconnect with your child’s teacher. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to reach out via email or our school communication platform, ParentSquare.

Thank you for your continued support as we begin another exciting chapter at Kitsap Lake Elementary. Let’s make 2025 a year to remember!

Sincerely,
Principal Takata

iReady Winter Growth and Progress

Recently, we have completed our Winter Benchmark iReady Assessments in all our classrooms. This gives an opportunity for us to gather information about the impact of our teaching for each student. Below, you will see some information about our performance during our first assessment window (September) and growth we have made this far in the year with our most recent assessment (December).

Keep in mind our goal is to increase our Above and On Level percentages while our Below percentage decreases over time.

If you have questions about this information please reach out to Principal Takata or your child's teacher.

Purposeful People Character Trait Focus for January

Perseverance:

This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up. How might you practice Perseverance as a family this month?

Each month, there are required district recognition and celebration priorities. These monthly celebrations are:

  • required by state law and/or board policy
  • included on the District printed wall calendar
  • include an element/expectation of recognition or an educational component in all schools such as curriculum/lessons, assemblies and/or staff celebration/acknowledgement
