2024-25 is in the books!

Have a great summer!

There were lots of smiles, hugs - and a few tears on the last day of school Friday! It was an extra special last day of school for Armin Jahr Elementary students, staff and families as it was the last day of school in the current building! See more photos from the last day of school here.

Mountain View Middle School & West Hills STEM Academy receive award

Mountain View Middle School & West Hills STEM Academy are both being honored "Schools on the Rise" for 2025. This award, given by the Association of School Principals and Association of Student Leaders, celebrates schools where students and adults collaborate to improve culture and amplify student voice. To receive this award, schools must show:

  • Established systems demonstrating students and adults collaborating and leading school culture together
  • Tangible examples of co-design, collaboration, joint leadership
  • Examples of authentic student engagement and elevated student voice
  • Examples of schools engaging multiple student voices and perspectives
  • Quantitative and/or qualitative data to illustrate the outcomes of student-adult joint leadership

We'll be sharing more about the great work being done at both of these schools in the fall! Congratulations to the staff and students at both of these schools!

Farewell to Armin Jahr community celebration

We had a great turnout for our Farewell to Armin Jahr community celebration earlier this month!

The event kicked-off with a brief program that included remarks from Superintendent Donna Colosky, Armin Jahr Principal Julie Fairall, and Bremerton Mayor Greg Wheeler. Armin Jahr student leaders then shared their reflections of their time at Armin Jahr before guests were invited to take a walk down memory lane with self-guided tours of the building. Old photos and memorabelia were on display, and guests were invited to share their memories on a photo mat that will be on display with a photo of the school.

Site preparations for Armin Jahr Interim Campus are underway!

Have you driven by the old East High gym (now called the East Bremerton Community gym) lately?

The Armin Jahr school community will be moving to an interim campus on the site in the fall while the NEW Armin Jahr school is built on the site of the current school. The campus will feature 20 portable buildings which have started arriving on site!

Crews are also busy putting in a stormwater system that will serve both the Interim Armin Jahr campus, and the new View Ridge Elementary Arts Academy school that's being built on that same campus.

Other Bond Program updates

Our Bond Program continues to advance across all projects, with visible progress with active construction at the site of the Armin Jahr Elementary Interim Campus on Wheaton Way. The project remains on schedule, preparing for a smooth transition for our students this fall.

The replacement schools for Armin Jahr Elementary and View Ridge Elementary Arts Academy are progressing through the design development phase, and we're actively planning to get necessary materials and equipment ready for early construction.

The consolidated facilities project is making promising progress towards a flexible and cost-effective layout for our operations, nearing a key planning stage. Our District-Wide HVAC upgrades project is adapting to new national standards for refrigerants. While these adjustments have led to some shifts in timeline and budget, our teams are working diligently to manage costs and protect the overall bond program budget.

Across all projects, our teams remain committed to delivering on the promises made to voters—ensuring both quality and efficiency while remaining adaptable to economic conditions and evolving needs.

Multilingual Family Night

¡Get Ready for Summer Learning! – A Celebration for Our Multilingual Families

Our multilingual team of educators were thrilled to host our “Get Ready for Summer Learning” event, specially designed to support our Spanish- and Mam-speaking multilingual families. More than 300 backpacks were distributed to K–12 multilingual students to help them prepare for a summer full of learning and fun!

Families of ML elementary students joined a Spanish-language session focused on supporting literacy and math at home during the break, while our secondary ML families attended an informative session on credits, graduation pathways, and staying on track for success.

The evening was filled with joyful moments — families shared dinner, played games together, and enjoyed quality time while their children were cared for in on-site childcare that our teachers hosted. We were proud to welcome several of our amazing community partners, including KIAC, The Y, Boys & Girls Club, Right at School, Kitsap Regional Library, and Kitsap Public Health, who provided helpful summer resources and programming information.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to kick off a strong and connected start to summer! View more photos here!

BHS students participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Earlier this month, seven Bremerton High School students (plus 2 BHS grads who returned as student leaders!) participated in the 2025 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). RYLA is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs designed to improve students' leadership skills in a fun environment, and provide an opportunity for students to make connections with other students from around the region!

Congratulations to all of our students for being chosen for this opportunity, and a BIG thank you to the Bremerton Rotary club for sponsoring these students!

Congratulations to these outstanding BHS athletes and coaches!

Carolynn Perkins receives Bremerton School District Community Leadership Award

Every year, the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) hosts its annual Regional Awards Dinner to recognize outstanding community leaders, long-serving educators, and retirees who have made a lasting impact on education in the region. Each school district has an opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations that have generously shared their time and talents to strengthen public education with their District.

This year, the recipient of the Bremerton School District Community Leadership Award was given to recently retired School Board Director Carolynn Perkins. Carolynn served for more than 15 years as a school board director on the Bremerton School Board.  As a lifelong educator, she was always a steadfast advocate and supporter for our youngest learners, especially those in early learning. Carolynn's dedication to making sure that Bremerton's most marginalized students received quality services that supported whole child development was at the forefront of her decisions as a board director.

Carolynn is well loved and respected by her colleagues, both in Bremerton and in the greater WSSDA school director community. She was integral in onboarding new directors especially in her work with WSSDA. Carolynn served on the WSSDA board as well as the foundation that supports students in communities with the most needs.

As a board director it was evident when watching and listening to her reports that she did this volunteer work in compassionate support of students and families, but also for the staff. Carolynn is a beloved member of the Bremerton School District community. Her calm, rational demeanor in all of her interactions with those of us who had the privilege to work with her, left an indelible place in our hearts.

Carolynn was also honored for her service to the District at the March 30 School Board meeting
