The Talon Times Important Update from Kitsap Lake

The Talon Times

August 2025, Edition 1

Mission:

At KLE, our school family cultivates a supportive environment that prioritizes emotional well being and rigorous academic standards to ensure every student thrives socially and academically.

Vision:

Kitsap Lake Elementary: Where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs.

Back to School Information

We can’t wait to welcome you back for Back to School Night! This is a great opportunity to meet teachers, tour classrooms, and get excited for the year ahead. Families are encouraged to sign up for ParentSquare to stay connected with school updates, complete your ABCs (Annual Back to School forms) online, and review your child’s school supply list to be ready for the first day. Teacher assignments will be available through Skyward on August 29th at 5:00 PM or when you attend our Open House.

The first day of school for 1st–5th graders is Wednesday, September 3rd, with an early release dismissal at 1:40 PM.

Kindergarten’s first day is Monday, September 8th. Kindergarten families will receive information directly from their child’s teacher about soft start days and Family Connect meetings to help make a smooth transition into school.

Join us for a Back to School Event with us at the Doc Luvs the Kids Day at Lion's Park this Saturday, August 23 from 12:00-3:00. There will be a BBQ, bounce house, face painting, snow cones, and plenty of resources to help with the new school year. Hope to see you there!

We’re looking forward to kicking off a fantastic year together!

Arrival and Dismissal Information

We are so excited to see our Eagles return for the first day of school! To help ensure a smooth and safe start, please take a few minutes to watch this short video that walks you through our Drop Off and Pick Up process.

A few important reminders as we kick off the year:

🚗 Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures

  • All families are expected to follow the Carr Blvd route and make a right turn into KLE. This keeps traffic flowing safely for everyone.

  • Kitsap Lake staff will provide families with placards (at Open House or on the first day of school) to display during car pick up or walking pick up. This helps us quickly identify students and get them safely to you.

  • If you arrive to school after 9:10, our policy is that you will need to escort your child into the office to check them in.

🐾 Pets on Campus
For the safety of all students, pets are not permitted outside of vehicles during drop off and pick up. This includes if you are a walking pick up at the Eagle Doors. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for every child.

🅿️ Parking Lot Behavior
Kitsap Lake is an organization that teaches children, and that extends beyond the classroom. We ask parents and caregivers to model the same positive behaviors we expect from students:

  • Use respectful language at all times.

  • Smoking or vaping on campus is not permitted at any time.

  • Treat staff and other families with kindness as they support you and others during busy pick up and drop off times.

🚓 Traffic Enforcement
Please note that Bremerton Police Department will continue to monitor traffic and issue tickets when necessary. As a school, we are not legally able to control traffic on city streets.

💙 We’re All in This Together
We know mornings and afternoons can feel rushed. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school family safe and efficient. By following these expectations, you’re setting a powerful example for your child and all of our Eagles.

We can’t wait to see you all on the first day—let’s make it a great start to the year!

Monthly Character Trait

September

In September the focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways. We hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together!

Conversation Starters:

  • Can you share or show what Respect means?
  • What is 1 way you have practiced Respect lately?

Monthly Celebrations

Each month, there are required district recognition and celebration priorities. These monthly celebrations are:

Respect - Trait of the month

September 15 - October 15 National Hispanic Heritage Month

September 17, 2024 - Constitution Day

  • required by state law and/or board policy
  • included on the District printed wall calendar
  • include an element/expectation of recognition or an educational component in all schools such as curriculum/lessons, assemblies and/or staff celebration/acknowledgement
