Notes from the Nest
As the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Dean of Students, I serve as a bridge between academics and the social-emotional growth of our school community. My role is to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed. I collaborate with staff, students, and families to build positive relationships, teach essential social-emotional skills, and implement restorative and proactive behavior supports. Through initiatives like Conscious Discipline, Character Strong, and structured recess and lunchroom practices, I help guide both students and staff in developing the skills needed for self-regulation, problem-solving, and collaboration. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that KLE is a place where every child can thrive both emotionally and academically.

Counselor Corner
Hello KLE families,
My name is Jenn Uniszkiewicz and I am the new school counselor. I am thrilled to be working at Kitsap Lake Elementary. My role is to support all students in social-emotional, academic, and career development. We will focus on positive social skills, problem solving and conflict resolution, recognizing and expressing feelings, effectively using coping skills, and personal self-growth. I will support students in several different ways: classroom counseling lessons, individual short-term counseling, small groups, and providing community resources.
Please, feel free to reach out if you have questions or concerns.

Social Emotional Learning Student Survey
Bremerton School District is committed to supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral health of students. The insights gathered from SEL surveys are invaluable to school staff, as they help to better understand students' emotional well-being and social interactions. This data plays a crucial role in creating supportive environments and targeted interventions that foster student success. This information will help schools and staff understand the needs of students at both the individual and school level.
Families who wish to opt out of the SEL survey, should contact their child's homeroom teacher or counselor to express this decision prior to 9/8/25. The teacher or counselor will guide them through the opt-out process and ensure the student is excluded from the survey. It is important for families to communicate their request before the survey is administered to ensure it is processed in time. Afterward, families will receive confirmation that the student will not participate in the survey.

KLE House System Update
Today at our school assembly, our staff had our big House Reveal—and it was such a fun way to kick off our new KLE House System! Students loved cheering on their teachers and staff as they found out which house they belong to. We practiced our cheers and hand signals to show our house spirit!
Next week, we’ll keep the excitement going with House Mania, as our Eagles continue to learn all about the eight different houses and what makes each one special. On Friday, we’ll take things up a notch with our 4th and 5th grade sorting ceremony.
Just like in true House fashion, the process is completely random—students don’t request a house, but instead, the house “chooses” them. This helps keep it fair and adds to the excitement and tradition of the experience.
We can’t wait to see our Eagles come together, build connections across grade levels, and celebrate the positive spirit of belonging that the House System brings to Kitsap Lake!

Pre-Planned Absence Form and Daily Routine Changes
As you are thinking about the year, please make sure to include us in your pre-planned vacations or time away from school due to medical or family emergencies. You can reach out to Lisa Jennings, in our front office, to complete a Pre-Planned Absence form.
Also, PLEASE help us by communicating any changes in daily go home routine to our office staff. This helps us make sure all our students make it on the correct bus or pick up area. If the office does not receive a note or information about a change, we will send the child home following their usual routine procedures. Often times, our teaching staff are busy and do not receive messages while they are teaching.

September
In September the focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways. We hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together!
Conversation Starters:
- Can you share or show what Respect means?
- What is 1 way you have practiced Respect lately?
|
|
Each month, there are required district recognition and celebration priorities. These monthly celebrations are:
Respect - Trait of the month
September 15 - October 15 National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 17, 2024 - Constitution Day
- required by state law and/or board policy
- included on the District printed wall calendar
- include an element/expectation of recognition or an educational component in all schools such as curriculum/lessons, assemblies and/or staff celebration/acknowledgement
