SEL Spotlight

Notes from the Nest

Has your student ever talked with you about their classroom Morning Meeting? Our KLE classroom teachers are committed to building classroom community through this proactive circle practice.

The four parts of Morning Meeting are:

Greeting - Teachers reinforce the important life skill of greeting people with a handshake in an attentive and respectful manner. They may even learn greetings in other languages!

Share - Teachers lead students through sharing about exciting events happening in their life, how to deal with big emotions and other topics that build connections in their classroom. This is a great time for problem solving and positive peer support.

Activity - Students participate in a team building activity that unites them through fun, teamwork and joy! Games to practice math facts, vocabulary words or memory skills are a hit.

Morning Message - The Morning Meeting is a bridge to your student's academic day. Teachers use this time to review the daily schedule, build anticipation for upcoming lessons and even practice editing skills!

I have the privilege of sitting in on Morning Meetings almost every day and am so proud to watch our teachers build social skills, reinforce mindfulness and deepen their classroom community.

Ask your student about their classroom Morning Meeting!

Have a great weekend.

Counselor Corner

Hello families,

In class we have learned all about Bullying (when someone keeps being mean to someone else on purpose, happens over and over again, and the person it’s happening to hasn’t been able to make it stop). We also learned the difference between a conflict (a disagreement between individuals) and a mean moment (a one time, hurtful incident that is on purpose and one sided). Please, take a moment to talk with your child about bullying. Next lesson we will discuss the 3 R's of bullying.

Thank you

Jenn Uniszkiewicz

KLE House System Update

Today we had our very first House Meeting of the year! 🎊 All students gathered with their house teams, got to know each other better 🤝, and took part in some fun activities to build connection and house spirit 💙💛💚❤️.

A big part of the House System is our House Points—and they are a BIG DEAL ⭐🏆. Points are not given out for every small behavior but instead for moments of outstanding effort, teamwork, perseverance, character, and school spirit 🙌✨. Each staff member aims to award 3–5 points per day, so it is completely normal if your child doesn’t collect points every day. For smaller daily wins, we continue to recognize students with our Eagle Eye awards 👀🦅.

We’re also excited to share that family access to the House Points app will be opening soon! 📲 This will allow you to follow along with your child’s house point journey. Look for a letter coming home soon with directions on how to join 📬.

We can’t wait to see the excitement grow as our Eagles work together to earn points for their houses this year! 💪🏽💫
