Hello KLE Families,
As we head into the heart of November, I want to share a few important updates and also pause to express my gratitude for our incredible school community.
Holiday Food Box Forms
Families who signed up to receive Holiday Food Boxes will see forms coming home this week. Please check your child’s backpack and return the completed forms as soon as possible so we can coordinate distribution smoothly. If you did not sign up but are in need of support, please reach out—our goal is to ensure every family has what they need for the season.
Attendance Matters
Thank you to the many families who continue to communicate proactively about absences and send in excusal notes, calls or messages. Regular attendance has a significant impact on learning, and we appreciate your partnership in helping students arrive on time, stay all day, and miss school only when necessary.
If your child needs to be out for illness, please contact our office the same day. If you have questions about what counts as an excused absence or need help monitoring attendance, we’re here to support you.
What I’m Grateful For
This time of year naturally brings reflection, and I want to express my appreciation for:
Our hardworking students who continue to show growth, resilience, and kindness.
Teachers and staff who bring passion, patience, and creativity into classrooms every single day.
Families who work with us, communicate openly, and partner in creating a safe and joyful environment for all.
Thank you for being part of the Kitsap Lake family.
🦃Turkey Hunt Next Week! 🦃
To bring a little extra fun to the week before break, each classroom will have a hidden turkey somewhere inside. Students and teachers will work together to see who can find their turkey first! We can’t wait to hear where they turn up—and who discovers them.
As always, please reach out if you have questions or need support. Wishing everyone a warm, safe, and connected week ahead.
With gratitude, Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
Dear Families,
I wanted to make you aware that we have seen an increase in inappropriate language at school, including foul language, racial or discriminatory comments, and phrases such as “you’re so gay.” Not only are students saying these things to each other they are writing it on walls and in bathroom stalls. While many students repeat words they hear without fully understanding their impact, this type of language is hurtful, exclusionary, and harmful to our school community.
At school, we are addressing incidents directly, reteaching expectations, and helping students understand how words can affect others. If your student needs individual support in this area, we will of course work with you in partnership to support your child.
We’d appreciate your partnership in talking with your child about using respectful, inclusive language and reminding them that Kitsap Lake is a place "Where Everyone is Welcome and Everyone Belongs". Thank you for your continued support in building a positive environment for all of our students.
With gratitude,
Maura Crisp, SEL Dean of Students

Counselor Corner
Hello KLE families,
With the counselor students will continue to work on perspective through the importance of teamwork and inclusion. Our younger grades are learning about small & big problems and personal space. Groups will be starting next week with a goal of making everyone feel included and welcomed. Some groups will work on executive functioning and staying on task.
House Altruismo will be sponsoring a clothing drive during Giving Tuesday, December 2nd. We will extend our giving day throughout the entire week of December 2nd to the 5th. December is a time to reflect on giving, and our house Altruismo is focused on altruism — the concern for the well‑being of others without regard for one’s own interest — and empathy for those in need.
Please clean out your closets and bring gently used clothing to be collected and donated to the Kitsap Help Line. Our goal is to see how many pounds of clothing our eight houses (one Eagle family) can gather. The helpline is in desperate need of men’s clothing, shoes/socks, and cold‑weather gear (base layers, jackets, etc.).
Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our community.
Warmly,
Jenn Uniszkiewicz

November Trait-Gratitude
For the month of November, our focus trait is Gratitude. One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness.
