Tomorrow marks the start of our Thanksgiving break! We hope your family enjoys some well-deserved rest, laughter, and time together. This break is a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect on the things we are grateful for, and make special memories with loved ones. We are thankful for each of our students and families and for the support you give to our school community every day. We had a bit of fun this week with a classroom Turkey Hunt. All our classes enjoyed finding the hidden turkey (behind their SmartBoard). Enjoy the photos below when they used the clues to locate the hidden turkey.
Enjoy the holiday, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school after the break! 🦃
With gratitude, Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
Dear Families,
As we move into the holiday season, I want to share my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible students. Each day, we are seeing real growth in kindness, empathy and the way our students step up to help one another. Whether it’s including a classmate, offering a hand during a tough moment, or showing encouragement during challenges, our school community is becoming stronger because of the character and habits you nurture at home. Thank you for partnering with us in creating a place where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
Wishing you a peaceful holiday,
Maura Crisp, SEL Dean of Students

Counselor Corner
Dear KLE Families,
As we enter the month of December—a time often associated with generosity, connection, and reflection—we are focusing on empathy as our school wide theme. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. It is a core skill that helps students build positive relationships, resolve conflicts, and contribute to a caring and inclusive school community.
In recent weeks, we have noticed a rise in unkind behaviors among students. While challenging moments are a normal part of growing and learning, this trend highlights the importance of reminding children what it means to treat others with compassion, respect, and understanding. December provides a natural opportunity to pause, reset, and work together to strengthen these values.
How You Can Support at Home
We encourage you to take a few moments this month to reflect with your student about what empathy looks like in everyday life. Here are some simple ways to start meaningful conversations:
Ask reflective questions, such as:
“How do you think your actions made someone else feel today?”
“Was there a moment when someone showed empathy to you?”
Talk through real-life situations, helping your child see perspectives beyond their own.
House Altruismo Clothing Drive
To put empathy into action, House Altruismo will be holding a schoolwide clothing drive this month. Students and families are invited to donate gently used clothing items that will directly support members of our community through the Kitsap HelpLine . This is a wonderful opportunity for students to practice generosity and understand the impact that compassionate choices can have on others.
Thank you for everything you do to help your child grow not only academically but also emotionally and socially. Together, we can make December a month of kindness, understanding, and connection.

November Trait-Gratitude
For the month of November, our focus trait is Gratitude. One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness.
