During the next week, students will be completing our winter i-Ready benchmark assessments in reading and math. i-Ready is a computer-based assessment that helps us understand each student’s current skills and growth over time.
We administer i-Ready three times a year—fall, winter, and spring—so we can monitor progress, celebrate growth, and identify areas where students may need additional support or enrichment. This assessment is not a grade; instead, it gives teachers valuable information about how students are developing in key academic areas.
Our goal for students is to try their best, take their time, and show what they know. We encourage families to support students by ensuring they are well-rested and confident—reminding them that this is simply a tool to help teachers support their learning.
Teachers and teams use i-Ready data to:
Plan instruction that meets students where they are
Identify students who may benefit from additional support or challenge
Monitor growth across the school year
Reflect on instructional practices and school-wide progress
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to support student growth and learning! Be on the lookout for information about our growth since fall as a school.
As we reflect on our Fall iReady scores, which you can see below, we have been highly focused on raising our student achievement for ALL students.
With gratitude, Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
As we move into a new calendar year, we are seeing wonderful growth in students’ social skills and their ability to handle conflicts more independently. Students are working to transfer what they learn during SEL lessons in the classroom—using respectful language, listening to others, and problem-solving—into their actions around school, including on the playground and during transitions. As we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminding students that peaceful conflict resolution, empathy, and standing up for what is right are ways they can live out his message each day.
We appreciate your continued partnership in reinforcing these skills at home.

Counselor Corner
This week, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on his powerful message of inclusion, fairness, and equality. Dr. King believed that everyone is unique, valuable, and deserving of respect and that our differences make our communities stronger.
In our counseling lessons this week, students are exploring what it means to:
- Include others and show kindness
- Celebrate what makes each person unique
- Treat others fairly and stand up for what is right
As we move into the holiday, I wish all of our families a restful and meaningful MLK Day, filled with reflection, kindness, and care for one another.
Warm regards,
Jenn Uniszkiewicz

We currently have a large number of coats in our Lost & Found. As we move into the rainy season, students will be needing their coats more regularly, especially since we do our best at KLE to get students outside whenever possible. Please take a moment to check the Lost & Found for any missing items and consider labeling coats to help them find their way back home. Thank you!

January Trait- Perseverance
For the month of January, we will be learning about Perseverance. We all experience challenges in our lives and have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up. We need to develop tools that help us work through those challenges and grow instead of giving up. Perseverance is pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles.
