Dear Families,
Happy January! We are settling back into our routines and it has been wonderful to see students engaged, learning, and enjoying time together after the break.
As the temperatures continue to drop, please make sure your child comes to school each day with a warm coat. We go outside for recess whenever possible, and having the right gear helps students stay comfortable and ready to play and learn. Hats and gloves are also a great idea on these chilly mornings.
We are especially excited for our Hootenanny this Wednesday, January 28 at 5:30 PM! Students have been practicing during specialist time this week and they are more than ready to show off their moves. There has been lots of smiling, laughing, and great energy in rehearsals — it’s been tons of fun to watch. Thanks, Ms. Dodge, for this fun event! We can’t wait for you to see all their hard work come together.
Our winter i-Ready benchmark assessments are wrapping up, and we are excited to share that students across all grade levels are showing impressive growth and progress. These assessments help us understand how students are developing in reading and math, celebrate gains, and identify where additional support or enrichment may be needed. We are proud of the hard work our students and staff have put in, and we look forward to sharing more detailed growth information with families soon.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We love sharing these joyful moments with our school community.
With gratitude, Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
Dear Families,
Today was a cozy and joyful day at school as students across all grade levels came together for a special House Activity Day. As both your child’s SEL Dean of Students and the RCA House Leader, it was truly a highlight to see our Houses in action.
During our House meetings, students gathered to connect with peers across grade levels, build relationships, and strengthen our sense of belonging. These moments are so important—when students feel safe, seen, and connected, they are better able to learn, grow, and support one another.
Each House also participated in a fun, creative art activity designed to encourage teamwork, communication, and self-expression. Laughter, creativity, and positive energy filled the school as students worked together and celebrated what makes their House special.
Days like today remind us that our RCA Houses are about more than points or cheers—they are about community, relationships, and heart. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to build a school culture rooted in connection, kindness, and belonging.
We can’t wait for the next House event!
Warmly,
Maura Crisp SEL Dean of Students & RCA House Leader

Counselor Corner
Dear KLE families,
This month, students learned about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his message of fairness, kindness, and respect for all. We focused on inclusiveness, celebrating what makes each person unique, and showing compassion toward others.
Some grade levels explored these ideas through fun, hands-on projects using eggs and apples. Students discovered that although things may look different on the outside, they can be very similar—and just as valuable—on the inside. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and talk about ways to include others, celebrate differences, and show kindness every day.
Next week, we will be conducting our SEL Screeners from grades 2-5. If you do not wish for your child(ren) to participate, please reach out to their teacher.
Warm regards,
Jenn Uniszkiewicz

January Trait- Perseverance
For the month of January, we will be learning about Perseverance. We all experience challenges in our lives and have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up. We need to develop tools that help us work through those challenges and grow instead of giving up. Perseverance is pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles.
