Dear Families,
At Kitsap Lake, communication and partnership with families are incredibly important. We care deeply about your children and are committed to doing what is best for them each and every day. Our goal is to work together to support students in their learning and growth, even when they make mistakes or poor choices, because those moments are also opportunities for learning.
We are guided by the vision of Bremerton School District: When students are empowered, they thrive, are self-determining, and develop a sense of purpose and hope for their future. Strong school-family partnerships are essential to making that vision a reality for every child.
In our work with families, we strive to always assume positive intent, recognizing that we all want the same thing: success, safety, and well-being for our students. We ask that you extend that same assumption of positive intent to our staff. When we approach one another with trust and collaboration, we can solve problems more effectively and create the best outcomes for children.
Thank you for partnering with us and for the many ways you support your child and our school community.
With gratitude, Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
Dear Families,
As part of our continued focus on building a safe, respectful, and supportive school community, we are spending time reinforcing two important expectations with students: keeping hands to ourselves and respecting one another’s personal bubble space.
Personal space helps everyone feel safe and ready to learn. We are practicing what it looks and sounds like to move safely in line, play safely at recess, and solve problems using words instead of our bodies. These skills are part of our ongoing social-emotional learning work and help students build self-control, empathy, and strong peer relationships.
We would appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this message at home. A simple reminder such as, “Show me how you keep your hands to yourself,” or “How do you know if someone needs more space?” can go a long way.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students grow socially and emotionally each day.
Warmly,
SEL Dean of Students

Counselor Corner
This month, we are continuing to focus on the character traits of honesty and integrity. Students are learning that honesty means telling the truth and taking responsibility for their actions, while integrity means doing the right thing—even when no one is watching. These skills help build trust, strengthen friendships, and create a positive school community.
How Families Can Support at Home:
Encourage open conversations. Create a safe space where your child feels comfortable telling the truth without fear of harsh punishment.
Praise truthful behavior. Acknowledge when your child is honest, especially in difficult situations.
Discuss real-life scenarios. Talk about choices in books, shows, or daily life and what integrity looks like in those moments.
Reinforce school expectations. Remind your child that being honest in class, on assignments, and with peers helps everyone learn and grow.
Working together, we can help our students develop strong character and lifelong values. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s growth!
Respectfully,
Jenn Uniszkiewicz

We are excited to share that the West Hills STEM PTA was recently awarded a “Ready, Tech, Go” program grant through the National PTA!
To celebrate, they are hosting a special family event on Tuesday, February 24th at 5:30 p.m., and they have extended the invitation to families from neighboring schools! We hope our families are able to take advantage of this exciting opportunity!

Bremerton School District is committed to supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral health of students. The insights gathered from SEL surveys are invaluable to school staff, as they help to better understand students' emotional well-being and social interactions. This data plays a crucial role in creating supportive environments and targeted interventions that foster student success. This information will help schools and staff understand the needs of students at both the individual and school level.
Families who wish to opt out of the SEL survey, should contact their child's homeroom teacher or counselor to express this decision prior to 3/27. The teacher or counselor will guide them through the opt-out process and ensure the student is excluded from the survey. It is important for families to communicate their request before the survey is administered to ensure it is processed in time. Afterward, families will receive confirmation that the student will not participate in the survey.

Our district is looking to add a few more parents to the District Advisory Council, and we would love your help! This council provides families an opportunity to share feedback, ask questions, and help guide important district decisions. We are hoping to connect with parents beyond our PTA/PTO groups. The next meeting will take place on March 4 from 4:00–5:00 PM. If you’re interested in participating or would like more information, please reach out to our main office at (360) 473-4300.

February Trait- Honesty
The focus for February is practicing Honesty to help with emotion awareness. It’s not always easy to be Honest in our words, actions, or thoughts with others or with ourselves. Practicing Honesty with ourselves allows us to identify emotions, be aware of our emotions, and manage our emotions.
