The Talon Times Important Update from Kitsap Lake

The Talon Times

February 2026, Edition 26

Mission:

At KLE, our school family cultivates a supportive environment that prioritizes emotional well being and rigorous academic standards to ensure every student thrives socially and academically.

Vision:

Kitsap Lake Elementary: Where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs.

Eagle Update from Principal Takata

Today, instead of our usual assembly, we celebrated Read Across America Day with a special Read Across KLE event!

Read Across America is a nationwide celebration of reading, sponsored by the National Education Association, that encourages schools and communities to lift up the joy and importance of literacy. It’s all about inspiring a love of reading in every child.

During Read Across KLE, classrooms traveled to different rooms around the building to hear stories read aloud by other teachers and staff members. Students had the opportunity to listen to new books, meet different adults in our school, and experience the joy of storytelling together.

Events like this help us build community and strengthen connections across grade levels. When students get to know more of the caring adults in our school family, it helps them feel a greater sense of belonging and connection. We loved seeing the excitement for reading throughout the building! 📚

With gratitude,
Principal Takata

SEL Spotlight

Notes from the Nest

This Monday we will celebrate SEL Day!

We are so proud of the growth our students have shown this year. Across all Houses, we are seeing students use calming strategies, solve conflicts more peacefully, include others at recess, and demonstrate what it means to truly belong.

To celebrate, our staff will be creating a special mindfulness craft for each classroom to help support calm bodies and focused minds. These tools will live in classrooms as reminders that every House member has strategies they can use when they need to reset and refocus.

Our KLE Houses are stronger because of the leadership, kindness, and responsibility our students show every day. Thank you for partnering with us in building both strong learners and strong humans!

Thank you,

Warmly,

SEL Dean of Students

Counselor Corner

February was Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! CTE Month is celebrated each February to highlight the value of Career and Technical Education programs in preparing students for high-skill, high-demand careers.

As we move into March, all students will be learning more about jobs and careers. Our older students will take a deeper dive into career exploration, including interests, skills, and possible career pathways. Our younger students will begin having age-appropriate conversations about different types of jobs and how school helps prepare them for the future.

We are excited to support our students as they begin exploring their interests and imagining the many possibilities ahead!

Supporting your student’s future,
Jenn Uniszkiewicz
School Counselor

Thank you to our Bremerton community for your strong support of the Replacement Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy in the February 10 election, which passed with 58.12% approval. Your investment helps ensure we can continue funding essential programs and services that support students every day — including classroom teachers and instructional materials, counselors and safety staff, custodial and maintenance services, and extracurricular opportunities like athletics and clubs. We are grateful for the Bremerton Community's continued commitment to our students, staff, and schools.

We Need Your Voice!

Our district is looking to add a few more parents to the District Advisory Council, and we would love your help! This council provides families an opportunity to share feedback, ask questions, and help guide important district decisions. We are hoping to connect with parents beyond our PTA/PTO groups. The next meeting will take place on March 4 from 4:00–5:00 PM. If you’re interested in participating or would like more information, please reach out to our main office at (360) 473-4300.
