Kitsap Lake Elementary: Where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs.

Today, our entire school came together for an exciting and engaging STEAM Day focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math! Throughout the day, students traveled to different classrooms and worked with a variety of staff members and classmates while participating in hands-on activities such as straw tower building, watercolor painting, seed planting, aluminum foil boat challenges, catapult construction, and many other creative learning experiences. The energy, teamwork, and excitement across the building made for a truly memorable day for our students and staff alike. STEAM activities are so important because they encourage creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and perseverance in ways that feel fun and meaningful to students. These types of experiences allow students to explore new ideas, test solutions, collaborate with peers, and learn through hands-on discovery. Just as importantly, days like today help strengthen our school community by giving students opportunities to connect with different adults and classmates throughout the building. Building relationships and creating a strong sense of belonging are essential parts of helping students feel safe, supported, and excited to come to school each day. We love creating opportunities like this that not only inspire learning, but also help every student feel connected as part of our Kitsap Lake school family.
Best regards,
Principal Takata

Notes from the Nest
Dear KLE Families,
At KLE, we want every student to know that all feelings are welcome and that everyone sometimes needs a moment to reset, regroup, or calm their body and mind. One of the ways we support students is through a calming space called The Nest.
The Nest is a safe and supportive calm-down area available to any student at KLE. Sometimes students may think that only kids who are “in trouble” visit The Nest, but that is not true at all. The Nest is for everyone. Students may visit when they are having big feelings, feeling sad, overwhelmed, frustrated, worried, or simply need a quiet moment to regulate before returning to learning.
Students can access The Nest by asking their teacher. Many students may only need an occasional visit, while others may benefit from more regular support. If a student needs frequent visits, school staff will work together with the teacher to create a supportive plan that helps the student feel successful throughout the school day.
At KLE, we believe learning how to recognize emotions and use healthy calming strategies is an important life skill. The Nest helps students practice those skills in a safe, caring environment.
Thank you for partnering with us as we support the social-emotional growth of all students.

Counselor Corner
Dear Families,
As part of our continued commitment to student safety and well-being, our school will also be teaching the Second Step Child Protection Unit. These lessons are designed to help students recognize unsafe situations, build confidence, and seek help from trusted adults.
In these lessons, students will learn three important types of skills:
• Personal Safety – Students will learn important safety rules related to guns, sharp tools, fire, riding on wheels, and car safety. They will also learn ways to decide if something is safe or unsafe.
• Touching Safety – Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, including rules about touching private body parts. They will practice saying no to unsafe or unwanted touches and telling a trusted adult if someone breaks these safety rules.
• Assertiveness – Students will practice asking adults for help, reporting unsafe situations, and using assertive communication to stay safe.
These lessons are part of the Second Step program, which supports students’ social-emotional growth and helps create a safe, supportive school environment for all learners.
If you have any questions or prefer your child not participate in these lessons, please contact me at jennifer.uniszkiewicz@bremertonschools.org.
Thank you for partnering with us to help keep our school safe and supportive for every student.
