Eagle Update from Principal Takata

Big News: Kitsap Lake Elementary Earns State Honors!

Dear Kitsap Lake Families,

We are thrilled to share some incredible news regarding the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and community. The Washington State Board of Education has officially named Kitsap Lake Elementary a recipient of the Washington School Recognition award for the 2024-2025 school year!

What This Means

This isn’t just a "participation trophy"—it is a prestigious distinction based on real results. Out of all the schools across Washington, only 16% received recognition this year. Kitsap Lake is proud to be among that select group.

Our school was specifically honored for Closing Gaps & Growth for:

  • Students in one or more racial or ethnic groups.

  • Students receiving special education services.

Why It Matters

This award recognizes that we aren't just teaching; we are ensuring that every student, regardless of their background or learning needs, is making "tremendous growth." By closing these achievement gaps, we are proving that with the right support and a dedicated community, every child at Kitsap Lake can excel.

"Receiving this recognition is no small honor... Schools like yours made great strides to improve outcomes for students by closing gaps and showing tremendous growth and achievement." — Washington State Board of Education

A Note of Gratitude

This achievement belongs to all of us. It belongs to our teachers who tailor their instruction to meet every learner where they are, our students who show up ready to grow, and you, our parents and guardians, who support the learning process at home.

Thank you for being part of a community that values excellence and equity for every student. Let’s keep this momentum going!

Go Kitsap Lake!

Best regards,

Principal Takata

SEL Spotlight

Counselor Corner

This month in counseling lessons, students will be learning important personal safety skills. We will begin by learning and reviewing important Never-Never Rules related to:

  • Guns
  • Fire
  • Riding on wheels (bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc.)
  • Crossing streets
  • Riding in a car
  • Water safety
  • Sharp tools
  • Dogs and animal safety

We will also focus on the “Always Ask First” Rule. Students will practice identifying the trusted adult they should ask first in different situations and learn that they should always ask a parent or the person in charge before going somewhere, doing something new, or accepting something from others.

The “Ways to Stay Safe” are:

  • Recognize: Is it safe? What’s the rule?
  • Report: Tell an adult.
  • Refuse: Say words that mean “no.”

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by reviewing safety rules and discussing trusted adults your child can go to when they need help.
