Building Community Belonging & Summer Safety

We are still looking for businesses and organizations interested in supporting, engaging with, and building connections with our students and families. If you have a recommendation, please send us the business name, contact person, and contact information. Thank you for helping us strengthen the connection between our school and community!

As we prepare for summer break, all students have completed safety lessons through our Second Step curriculum. We encourage families to take a few moments to talk with their child about the Second Step 3 R's: Recognize, Refuse, and Report.

Key safety reminders include:

  • Unsafe touches hurt your body.
  • A person should never touch your private body parts except to keep you healthy (such as a parent helping with hygiene or a healthcare provider during an examination with a trusted adult present).
  • If something makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, tell a trusted adult right away.

Thank you for partnering with us to support both the safety and well-being of our students.

Notes from the Nest

Dear Kitsap Lake Families,

I wanted to take a moment to share some important news with our KLE community. Beginning next school year, I will be transitioning to a new role as the full-time SEL Dean of Students at Naval Avenue Elementary.

This change is truly bittersweet for me. Kitsap Lake Elementary has been my home for the past seven years, and it has been an incredible privilege to grow alongside this amazing community. During my time at KLE, I spent two years teaching Highly Capable students, one year serving as an Instructional Specialist, and the last four years as your SEL Dean of Students.

Over these years, I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the compassion, resilience, and growth of our students. I am especially proud of the deep commitment our entire staff has made to strengthening social emotional learning systems and instruction at KLE. Together, we have built supports, routines, relationships, and restorative practices that have made a meaningful impact on students and families. The work we have done has always been a team effort, and I know those strong systems will continue to thrive.

While I will deeply miss being part of the KLE community every day, I am excited to introduce Ashley Gunderson as KLE’s new SEL Dean and Title One teacher. Ashley is currently one of our outstanding ISP teachers and brings incredible care, dedication, and passion for supporting students. She has already built strong relationships within our school community, and I know she will continue to lead this work with heart and excellence.

Thank you for your support, partnership, and trust over the years. It has been an honor to serve the students and families of Kitsap Lake Elementary. KLE will always hold a very special place in my heart.

With gratitude,

Maura Crisp

SEL Dean of Students

8 Houses One Eagle Family

Celebrating Our First Year of the House System!

This year marked an exciting milestone at Kitsap Lake Elementary as we launched our very first year of the House System! Throughout the year, students built connections across grade levels, demonstrated our school values, earned House Points, and worked together to create a positive and supportive school culture.

The House System has helped strengthen our sense of belonging and school pride. Students have cheered one another on, celebrated successes together, and shown what it means to be leaders both in and out of the classroom. Whether earning points for kindness, responsibility, perseverance, teamwork, or academic effort, every student played a role in making this first year a tremendous success.

We wrapped up the year with an exciting week of House Mania, where each day we celebrated our houses through spirit, friendly competition, and school-wide excitement. Students proudly represented their houses and worked together to earn those final points before the big reveal.

After an incredible year of competition and collaboration, we are excited to announce that our very first House Champion for the 2025-26 school year is House Sollevare!

Congratulations to every member of Sollevare for their dedication, teamwork, and positive contributions throughout the year. While Sollevare earned the championship title, all eight houses helped make our first year unforgettable. We are proud of every student for embracing the House System and helping create a school where everyone belongs.

We can't wait to see what next year brings as the houses continue to grow, compete, and support one another. Go KLE Houses!
