We're settling into a great routine here at KLE! A few important reminders as we move through these first few weeks together.

 Drop-off & Pick-up Traffic Pattern

Please remember: entry to Kitsap Lake Elementary is a right turn only. This means you'll need to drive past the school and loop around the campus to reach the parking lot.

If you're parking along the road, please park well away from either intersection. This keeps clear space for our school buses to safely turn into the bus loop — their on-time, safe arrival and departure matters not just for our students, but for bus routes across the district.

 Health & Attendance

As we head deeper into cold and flu season, here's a quick guide for when to keep your student home:

• Mild cold symptoms (runny nose, occasional cough) — okay to attend school
• Fever over 100.4°F — please keep them home
• Vomiting within the last 24 hours — please keep them home
• Diarrhea — please keep them home
• Health Guidance

Keeping sick students home helps protect the whole KLE community and gives your child the rest they need to recover.

We're continuing to reinforce our school-wide expectations with all students, helping every child understand what success looks like throughout their day at KLE.

A Note of Gratitude

I want to take a moment to say how truly grateful I am for the warm welcome from the KLE community. This is a wonderful place to work, and I feel it every day. Thank you for making these first weeks so special.

As we settle into the school year, we are continuing to practice and reinforce the schoolwide expectations that help keep KLE safe, respectful, and ready for learning.

Some of the skills we are focusing on with our Eagles include:

Safe hands and bodies: Keeping hands, feet, and objects to ourselves—even when playing with friends, siblings, or other family members at school.

Walking feet: Using safe walking feet in hallways and other indoor spaces.

Listening to adults: Stopping, listening, and following directions from the adults who are helping keep us safe.

Using respectful words: Speaking to peers and adults in a kind and appropriate way, even when we are frustrated or disagree.

Stopping when asked: Respecting when someone says “stop,” “no,” or asks for space.

Making safe choices: Remembering that expectations apply throughout the school day—in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, at recess, and in The Nest.

Practice at Home

Families can help reinforce these skills at home, too! Practicing simple reminders such as “safe hands,” “walking feet,” “listen to the adult,” and “stop means stop” helps students hear consistent language across home and school.

You can also practice what to do when your child is frustrated or doesn’t like a direction: stop, take a breath, use respectful words to label the emotion.

As mentioned in previous newsletters, next week we will be conducting our SEL screeners with students across all grade levels.

We are also continuing to work with our Eagles on making recess a safe, respectful, and inclusive space for everyone. Our recess areas are shared by students of all ages, including our youngest Eagles. Because older students are bigger and stronger, we are reminding everyone to:

• Watch where you are going and be aware of students around you.
• Slow down when younger students are nearby.
• Give younger students plenty of space to play and move safely.
• Remember that younger students may not be used to sharing space or playing with much older students.
• Choose games and play that are safe, respectful, and appropriate for everyone.

All families picking up or dropping off students are expected to follow the Carr Blvd route and make a right turn into KLE as shown on the map. When vehicles pile up on Harlow Drive, it creates safety concerns for both our neighborhood and our school community. In addition, Kitsap Lake Elementary serves students from across the school district. When traffic prevents buses from accessing the bus loop, it affects transportations ability to transport all of our students.

When dropping off or picking up your student, please do not turn from Harlow Drive onto Carr Boulevard. This short stretch of roadway does not have sufficient space for vehicles to queue, and congestion in this area can actually increase your wait time. Instead, we encourage families to "put your car on Carr."

If you are approaching from the Auto Center area, please continue north on Harlow Drive past the school. You may then follow one of the recommended routes to access Carr Boulevard:

• Continue on Harlow Drive to Kitsap Way.
• Turn right onto Kitsap Way.
• Turn right onto Lyle Avenue.
• At the fork in the road, bear left onto Carr Boulevard.

By following this route, you will help maintain a safer environment for students, families, neighbors, and school buses while improving the overall efficiency of the pickup and drop-off process.

If your child’s dismissal plan changes for the day, please contact the front office by 2:30 PM. You can reach Samantha Gorham and Lisa Jennings through ParentSquare or by calling (360) 473-4300.

We appreciate families contacting transportation when needed, but the front office also needs to be notified so we can make sure the appropriate staff members are aware of the change and your child gets to the correct dismissal location safely.

Please avoid contacting teachers directly with dismissal changes, as messages can sometimes be missed if a teacher is absent or away from their classroom that day. Contacting the front office ensures your request is received and communicated to the right staff.

To maintain critical state funding for essential education programs, we ask all families to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) application each year. Please complete the orange form and return it to us ASAP. If you have any questions or need more information please reach out to Alexis Esquivel-Sawyer: 360-473-4717 or Ashley Guerrero: 360-473-4716.

We wanted to let families know that our Special Grown-Up Lunch has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 29th.
