Eagle Update from Principal Nygard

Dear Kitsap Lake Families,

What a wonderful week it has been at Kitsap Lake! I’m continually impressed by how hard our Eagles are working in their classrooms, and I’m grateful for the partnership of our families. Here are a few important updates as we head into the end of October.

 Fall Festival is almost here!
We are so excited for our Fall Festival onThursday, October 29th from 5-7pm! It will be an evening of fun, community, and celebrating our amazing students. We can’t wait to see you there. Bring the whole family!

 Schedule Your Fall Conference
Fall Conferences are a great chance to connect with your child’s teacher about their progress, goals, and how we can support them together. Please watch for a ParentSquare message from your child’s teacher with a link to sign up for a conference time. If you haven’t received it or need help finding a time that works, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the front office.

No School – Friday, October 30
There is no school for students on Friday, October 30. Our staff will be engaged in professional development to keep growing our practice and supporting student learning. Please make any childcare arrangements you need for that day.

Thank you for all you do to support our students. It’s a great time to be an Eagle!

Warmly,
Amber Nygard
Principal, Kitsap Lake Elementary

Notes from the Nest

The Power of Knowing Someone's Name!

At KLE, we're encouraging students to learn and use the names of the people around them! Something as simple as knowing someone's name can make a big difference in building a kind, safe, and connected school community.

Knowing someone's name matters for more than just friendship!

  • Building friendships: Learning and using someone's name helps them feel seen, valued, and included. It's a great first step toward making new friends!

  • Showing kindness and respect: Greeting someone by name helps build positive relationships and a sense of belonging.

  • Getting help and reporting concerns: When students know the names of their peers, they can communicate more clearly with adults when something happens. Being able to tell an adult who was involved helps us respond quickly, understand situations accurately, and provide appropriate support.

We're reminding students that if something happens that makes them or someone else feel unsafe, it's important to tell an adult right away. Knowing someone's name can help, but students should always report concerns, even if they don't know who was involved!

How families can help: Ask your child about the students they spend time with at school. Do they know their names? Encourage them to introduce themselves to someone new, practice using names kindly, and remember that telling a trusted adult about unsafe behavior helps keep everyone safe.

Small connections make a big difference. Together, we can help every KLE student feel known, included, and safe!

Unity Day and Bullying Prevention

October is a wonderful time to celebrate Unity Day, a day dedicated to kindness, inclusion, and standing together against bullying. At KLE, we want every Eagle to feel safe, respected, and like they belong! Unity Day reminds us that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in creating a school community where everyone feels welcome.

Through our Second Step bullying prevention curriculum, students learned the 3 R’s: Recognize, Refuse, and Report.

  • Recognize: Identify bullying and understand the difference between bullying, mean moments, and everyday conflicts.

  • Refuse: Use a respectful, confident voice to let others know unkind behavior is not okay.

  • Report: Tell a trusted adult when bullying happens or someone feels unsafe.

How can families help? Talk with your child about including others, practice phrases like “That’s not okay” or “Come play with us,” and remind them that telling a trusted adult is a way to keep everyone safe—not tattling.

Together, we can help our Eagles create a school community where everyone belongs!
