Eagle Update from Principal Nygard

Dear Eagle Families,

Fall Festival Tonight!
Tonight’s Fall Festival is a wonderful example of what makes Kitsap Lake so special. A huge thank you to our PTO and many staff members for the many hours of planning, organizing, and setup, and to the families, staff, and community volunteers who donated time, treats, and talents to make this evening happen. Events like this don’t come together without a whole community behind them, and we are so grateful for each of you. We can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: November 5th and 6th
Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on Thursday, November 5th and Friday, November 6th. Conferences are a valuable chance to celebrate your child’s growth, talk about goals, and partner with their teacher for the rest of the year. If you haven’t already, please schedule a time with your child’s teacher(s) soon. Please remember there is no school for students on November 5th and 6th.

Every Day Counts, and So Does Your Child’s Health
Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. Every day at school is a day of learning, connection, and growth, and those missed days add up quickly. At the same time, we know that a healthy child is a ready learner. Please keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, and wait until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine) before returning. A runny nose or mild cough alone is usually not a reason to stay home. If you are ever unsure, or if your family is facing challenges getting to school, please reach out to our front office. We are here to help.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safety Reminders
Keeping our students safe during arrival and dismissal is a shared responsibility. Please help us by:

  • Keeping bus entrances clear. Please do not stop or park in a way that blocks the entrances buses use from the road.
  • Using the car line for independent riders only. The parent car line is for students who can get into and out of the car on their own. This keeps the line moving safely and efficiently for everyone.
  • Parking if your child needs help. If your child needs help getting into or out of the car, please park and walk to meet them at the Eagle doors.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. It truly makes a difference!

Dress for the Weather
Fall in the Pacific Northwest means changing weather, and our Eagles spend most of their recess time outside, rain or shine! Please send your child to school with a warm, waterproof jacket every day, and consider layers, a hat, and gloves as temperatures drop. Labeling jackets and gear with your child’s name helps us return lost items quickly.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we are helping every Eagle soar!

Warmly,
Amber Nygard
Principal, Kitsap Lake Elementary

SEL Spotlight

Notes from the Nest

As we head into November, we're focusing on how our everyday choices impact the people around us. Kindness isn't just about doing something nice for someone—it's also about how we speak, play, solve problems, and treat others when things don't go our way.

At school, we're continuing to practice important social-emotional skills, especially during recess and other less-structured times:

  • Think before you speak: Words can build friendships or hurt feelings. Choose words that show respect, even when you're frustrated.

  • Be a good sport: Winning feels great, but losing is part of learning! Practice celebrating others and handling disappointment appropriately.

  • Respect boundaries: Everyone deserves to feel safe. Keep hands and feet to yourself, listen when someone says "stop," and respect personal space.

  • Take responsibility: Mistakes happen! Being honest, owning our choices, and working to make things right help build trust.

  • Include others: Small gestures like learning someone's name, inviting someone to play, or checking on a classmate can make a big difference.

Try This at Home: Ask your child, "What's one small thing you can do tomorrow to help someone feel safe, included, or respected?" Talk about how even small choices can have a big impact on someone's day.

Remember: Being kind doesn't mean we never get upset or make mistakes. It means we're learning how to handle those moments with respect, empathy, and responsibility.
