Kitsap Lake Eagles: November Monthly Update
A Month of Gratitude and Giving Thanks
Dear Kitsap Lake Families, Staff, and Students,
Welcome to our very first Monthly Update! Moving forward, I will share an update each month so you know what is happening at Kitsap Lake, what your students are learning, and how you can stay connected with us. This November, our theme is gratitude, and there is so much to be thankful for here at KLE.
A Note of Gratitude
To our families: Thank you for trusting us with your children every day. Your partnership, whether it is reading together at night, attending conferences, or cheering on our Eagles, makes a real difference in your child's learning and in our school community.
To our staff: Thank you for the care, patience, and hard work you bring to our students every single day. Your commitment to strong instruction and to knowing each child well is what moves Kitsap Lake forward. I am proud and grateful to work alongside you.
To our students: Thank you for showing up ready to learn, being kind to one another, and soaring as Eagles. You are the reason we do what we do. A special thank you to Ms. Dodge and our student singers, who performed at Wednesday's assembly and showed their pride and gratitude for our veterans (our V-E-T-S, VETS!).

Gratitude at Home
As we celebrate this month of gratitude and giving thanks, take a moment each day to ask your student, "What are you thankful for today?" It is a simple question that builds connection, reflection, and kindness, the same skills our students are practicing in class.
Thank you for being part of the Kitsap Lake family. I am grateful for each of you.
With gratitude,
Amber Nygard

Notes from the Nest
As we move into November, we’re focusing on the importance of gratitude, kindness, and building positive relationships within our Eagle community!
At school, we’re continuing to help students understand that kindness is more than just being nice. It’s about recognizing how our words and actions affect others, showing empathy, and making choices that help everyone feel safe, respected, and included.
One important skill we’re practicing is thinking about the impact of our actions, not just our intentions. Sometimes we hurt someone’s feelings without meaning to, and that’s okay to acknowledge! Learning to take responsibility, listen to others, and repair relationships is an important part of growing socially and emotionally.
Try This at Home: Ask your child, “What’s one thing someone did this week that made you feel good?” Then challenge them to think of one small way they can make someone else’s day better!
Remember, being kind doesn’t mean we always agree or get along. It means we treat others with respect, even when things are difficult.
Together, we can continue building a school community where every Eagle feels valued, connected, and supported!

Counselor Corner
November Is a time for reflection, gratitude, and giving back to our community.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets We will be collecting nonperishable food items and grocery gift cards to help provide Thanksgiving food baskets for families in our community.
Learning to Understand and Support One Another
This month, students will continue building important social-emotional skills to help them navigate friendships and conflicts.
Upper Grades (3rd–5th): Students will explore perspective-taking and how different points of view can impact conflicts. We will practice helpful problem-solving strategies such as walking away, ignoring the behavior, moving to another area, waiting and cooling off, asking someone to stop, making a deal, apologizing, and talking it out. Students will also discuss which strategies are helpful in different situations.
Younger Grades (K–2nd): Students will focus on understanding what bullying is and how to recognize it. We will practice the 3 R's: Recognize, Refuse, and Report to help students identify bullying behaviors, use their voices, and seek help from trusted adults.
We are grateful for our Eagle Family and the kindness and generosity that make our school community so special. Together, we can make a meaningful difference while helping our students grow into caring, respectful, and responsible members of our community!
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for helping us spread kindness and care throughout our community!

Coming Soon: Impact Aid Collection
Every year the Bremerton School District must apply for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds compensate the District for the loss of local tax dollars due to families living in tax exempt federal property in the Bremerton area. Watch for information and a pink Impact Aid form from us - coming soon! The District only needs one form completed per family. Surveys will be sent home with the YOUNGEST student in the family.
Q: Why don't we collect Impact Aid and CNEEB forms at the same time?
A: While both forms are crucial, they serve different purposes. With Impact Aid, we are required to follow the federal government's specific timeline for collecting that information. The CNEEB form is collected earlier because it's used to verify families' eligibility for a number of important benefits, including free ASB cards and discounts on school fees. This allows us to provide those benefits to our students right away, without waiting for the federal Impact Aid window later in the fall.
